San Pedro is a safe town.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has primary responsibility for policing and public safety.
The San Pedro Waterfront and other areas in town are also covered by the Los Angeles Port Police, one of the nation's best public service agencies. It also patrols the channels around the port with 24-hour dedicated teams of specially-trained public safety professionals.
The Historic Downtown is patrolled by private security provided by the Business Improvement District.
Security Ambassadors are available to provide escorts if you request. Service hours are: Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m. to Midnight and Friday – Sunday: 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. For assistance, call 310-303-4471.
In addition, as a port location and home to Ft. MacArthur, a part of Los Angeles Air Force Base, there are numerous other agencies that patrol large parts of the area.
Police services are provided to the Palos Verdes Peninsula communities and on Catalina Island by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.
It's always a good idea, whether at home or traveling, to be aware of your surroundings.
And keep an eye on your belongings.
Use your hotel's room safe to secure them, if one is available.
Be careful with public wifi wherever you area. Use a virtual private network, if you can.
